nuclear safety (summary)

NUCLEAR SAFETY

it is says that the nuclear reactor will have the following secured layer.,

1st layer of defense is the inert, ceramic quality of the uranium oxide itself.
2nd layer is the air tight zirconium alloy of the fuel rod.
3rd layer is the reactor pressure vessel made of steel more than a dozen centimeters thick.
4th layer is the pressure resistant, air tight containment building.
5th layer is the reactor building or in newer powerplants a second outer containment building.

safety system are take into consideration very-very seriously so the nuclear power plant accident shouldnt happen again. if any on eof the country lead to nuclear reactor blow up, melting core, with immediate effect entire nations NPP will  be terminated. so as a engineer, technician and others are very concerned about safety system.

  1. Ok!!in Malaysia we have any course for our engineer to learning about nuclear safety like NDT or NIOSH.For ur opinion, it's our engineer can give a good services in nuclear safety?do u think our government do the right option about it?and the last but not least what the extent to which it is effective?

  2. it is great to see all the safety measurement taken in the process of devoloping nuclear reactors ..... and i think if malaysia follow all the safety precoution then they should not worry about the safety of nuclear plant blow ups... and can concentrate on making the nuclear plant bigger...

  3. SAFETY...the number one priority before ever thinking to set-up an NPP..the government should take a great deal in this, particularly in safety protocols and standards...they should be in line with international safety standards, if not higher..but then, even with the highest standards of safety, one factor remains a blurr..HUMAN ERRORS..staff training and SOPs must be professional, detailed and thorough... for a simple mistake can have a disastrous effect. Take note Chernobyl...

  4. hello,
izit the 5 layer secured layer can overcome or can can prevent from accidident happen like explosion.izt this safety is full enough for the nuclear.

  7. Its good to hear that serious safety precautions are being taken in order to build a safe npp.

Therefore is it fine to conclude that a catastrophic disaster would might not occur again due to all the upgrades that has been put into developing the 21st century npp???

  8. I agree that nuclear plants need good and reliable safety systems as we all know the effects of an accident aftermath. I would like to know what are the costs of installing a general reactor's safety systems itself? And what possibly are the costs of maintaining them?

  10. i like this post. simple but meaningful. this proves that NPP is safe if we handle it according to the safety precautions. hence, with no doubt, i can say to the Malaysians, please do support the nuclear energy as our new power source. it is safe and we can get a lot of advantages by using it.

  11. see...
on the previous discussion about nuclear, we were only talking about the advantages of this green energy source..
people are afraid of the disadvantages actually..
if there's possibilities for malaysia to work on nuclear energy, remember..
    safety first..

  12. wow, damn interesting structure i ever heard before,im impressed. You are right, safety system playing a major role in constructing a structure but when comes to nuclear reactor we have be to 100* serious into it.Because a minor mistake can make a major disaster.
